The Heggies Vineyard grapes are picked in the cool of the night and swiftly transported to our winery. There is minimal handling of the juice and only the free run portion is selected for Heggies Riesling. The juice is fermented at cool temperature using aromatic yeasts and blended early at the completion of vintage. At Heggies, there are a number blocks of Riesling available so when the final blend is made there is a variety of options ensuring each vintage is of consistently excellent quality. Riesling was one of the foundation varieties of the Heggies Vineyard and plantings date back to 1975, with most of the blocks of a similar age. The thin gravely soils at Heggies and limited water resource, combined with the cool climate of the Eden Valley, ensure crops are always moderate.
The nose shows typical Eden Valley highlights of citrus blossom and bath salts with an underlying grapefruit and mango fruit salad melange. The palate is fresh and lively coupled with mid palate fruit weight of crunchy pears, yielding to a lingering fresh citrus zest finish.
